Golf : Within a 60km radius of La Grange there are a number of 18 hole courses both 'municipal' and private. The best of these are :

Cognac : superb par 72 bordering the River Charente. This 6,142 metre, undulating course, dotted with water hazards is a challenge for any serious golfer. It is a course open to all with reasonable green fees (approx 35 euros per day). Holes 12,15 and 17 are particularly challenging and will delight the more experienced player. A spacious and comfortable club house offering A la carte and Menu du jour choices.

Perigueux: a public course on the outskirts of the town would put many UK courses to shame. Set in parkland, this par 71, - 5606 metre course, offers a serious challenge to all golfers. 9 holes have formidable water hazards to negotiate, but the 19th offers everyone a warm and refreshing welcome.

La Rochelle: Farther afield, at La Rochelle, is Golf de La Pree, an 18 hole, par 72 links style course offering a warm welcome, good clubhouse facilities and stunning views accross the bay to the Ile de Re.

Chateau des Vigiers (Monestier) - a premier golf and country club right in the middle of Bergerac wine country. A par 72, 5303 metres parkland course which is a delight to play.

In all cases, it is advisable to book tee off times.

Apart from the above, there are a few 9 hole courses within easy distance of La Grange. The pick of these are:

Manoir de Longeveau : close to Aubettere this former Cognac estate offers golfers of all abilities a challenging 9 hole par 62 (2x31) course. The club runs weekly competitions which are open to visitors with valid handicaps (bandits beware).

Les Landes : close to St Aulaye, a private estate course bordering a beautiful lake and surrounded by pine forest. A very tight and challenging par 68 (2x34).
